Poultry CRC Scholarships

The Poultry CRC is calling for general scholarships (at participating universities), including the Jeff Fairbrother Honours Scholarship for students entering their Honours year at participating universities. Calls for postgraduate (Masters and PhD) scholarships are also underway.

In keeping with the Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) Program, scholarships are available for a period of two years for a Masters by research degree or three years, with a possible extension of six months, for a Doctorate by research degree (PhD). Award holders receive an annual stipend and may also be eligible for other allowances. The Poultry CRC postgraduate scholarships are tax-free and are valued at AUD 30,000 per annum.

Honours scholarships are 1 year in duration and valued at AUD 5000.

Applicants must be Australian (or New Zealand) citizens or Permanent Australian Residents and studying at one of the participating universities. We encourage prospective students to either contact us directly or contact potential supervisors at Poultry CRC participating universities.

Scholarship applications are reviewed year round. There are 3 study programs available:

  1. Health and Welfare
  2. Nutrition and Environment (now fully subscribed)
  3. Food Safety and Quality Food Production

To apply, use the Poultry CRC Scholarships online application form. Note: to fill in an application, you will need to have discussed the research proposal with your supervisor, prepared an outline of your proposal for submission (max 2 A4 page) , be able to attach a copy of the letter of offer from your university, and obtained a copy of your academic transcript.

For more information, contact the Poultry CRC Education Manager, Liz Roan.

Nuffield Scholarships

Nuffield Australia awards Scholarships each year to farmers in Australia. The objective is to increase practical farming knowledge and management skills and techniques generally. These scholarships give Australian citizens the opportunity to study farming practices in New Zealand, Europe, Asia and the Americas and those countries best suited to the Scholar. They will also promote a closer understanding between farmers in the countries visited.

Upon returning to Australia it is expected that Scholars will be able to actively spread the knowledge and understanding they have gained among their fellow farmers and others.

Nuffield Farming Scholarships give a unique opportunity to stand back from your day-to-day occupation, and to study a subject of interest to you. You do not need academic qualifications, but you will need to persuade the Selectors that you have the qualities to make the best use of an opportunity that is only given to a few.

Nuffield Australia Farming Scholarships available in 2010 included a chicken meat grower or livestock manager anywhere in Australia supported by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) Chicken Meat Program.
