Project overview
This project aims to establish a comprehensive capability for the study of gene expression in chickens. The goal is to make this technology available to all research groups within Australia who identify useful applications. The CSIRO group aims to use the capability to analyse the response of chickens to various infectious agents. It is anticipated that this will guide the development of new products to enhance chicken health and productivity.
Project objectives
- Establish a comprehensive capability for the study of gene expression in chickens.
Project progress
We have used our 20,000 gene microarray to analyse chicken gene expression in a variety of model systems with a view to understanding the underlying biological processes in pathogen infection and normal gut development. Currently only about a third of the gene set on the microarray is adequately annotated so we have expended considerable effort on refining the gene annotation so that we can better interpret the importance of observed gene expression changes.
