Universities in Australia principally focus on providing higher education through the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Some universities are increasingly moving towards the delivery of distance and on-line learning programmes and vocational education and training qualifications. The courses and delivery systems offered by universities are regularly reviewed so you should obtain current information from the universities if you are considering higher education. The following information was current as at August 2007.The following Australian universities offer courses relevant to poultry production.

James Cook University
James Cook University (JCU) specialises in tropical research and has main campus sites in the tropical Queensland cities of Townsville and Cairns. They also have modern campuses in Brisbane and Singapore. There are smaller sites in Mackay, Mount Isa and Thursday Island, and they deliver courses through education partners in Asia and the Pacific.Undergraduate and postgraduate courses span the arts, business, education, engineering, law, medicine and health sciences, science, information technology and social sciences.
JCU offers the following undergraduate course related to poultry production:
- Bachelor of Tropical Agricultural Sciences
Postgraduate qualifications can also be obtained. There are no subjects listed that are specific to poultry production.
University of Adelaide
The University of Adelaide specialises in providing courses relating to wine and food, health sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, information technology and telecommunications, environmental sciences and social sciences. The majority of subjects related to agriculture are delivered at the Roseworthy campus, with some subjects delivered at the Waite and North Terrace campuses.The University of Adelaide offers the following undergraduate courses related to poultry production:

University of Melbourne
The University of Melbourne is based in Parkville, an inner suburb of Melbourne. They also have several associated rural and regional campuses in the State of Victoria. They offer a wide range of courses and operate under a philosophy of learning and teaching as part of a triple helix, in conjunction with research and knowledge transfer between the university and the broader community.The University of Melbourne offers the following postgraduate and undergraduate courses related to poultry production:

The University of Melbourne runs a Community Access Program (CAP) that opens up study opportunities so that everyone has a chance to experience the benefits of expert tuition at the University of Melbourne. CAP students attend the same classes as degree students during semester.

University of New England
The University of New England (UNE) in Armidale, NSW, undertakes teaching and fundamental and applied research in a range of rural and life sciences, arts, social and humanities studies, economics, business, law, educational administration, linguistics and archaeology. Collaborative research with other institutions includes projects with the CSIRO and the high profile Cooperative Research Centres.UNE offers the following undergraduate courses related to poultry production:

UNE currently offers two units in poultry science which may be studied as part of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees or alone for non-award students on a full fee basis. Both units are available in distance education mode, each with a compulsory 4-day Residential School. However, the Poultry CRC is currently sponsoring the fully on-line development of these two units, a project which is due for completion in early 2009.

University of Queensland
The University of Queensland has teaching and research sites throughout Queensland. Its major campuses are at St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton. Other locations include teaching hospitals and health centres, veterinary science centres, agricultural science farms, marine research stations, physics research stations, seismograph stations and an underground mine.The University offers courses in arts, business, economics, law, engineering, architecture and a wide range of sciences, particularly biosciences.
