List of chicken breeds
From Poultry Hub
Domesticated over 7000 years ago, the chicken belongs to the Galliformes order and is believed to have originated from the red junglefowl (Gallus gallus), native to Southern Asia, particularly the jungles of India. Since the red junglefowl still exists in its wild state today, it is possible to compare the characteristics of the domesticated chicken with its wild ancestor. Physical changes that have resulted from domestication include increased growth rate and adult body weight, simplified plumage, earlier sexual maturity, more frequent egg laying and larger eggs.
