Postgraduate internships

The Poultry CRC offers postgraduate internships to encourage young scientists to work in the Australian poultry industry. To be eligible, you must be a Poultry CRC Postgraduate and have submitted, or are about to submit, your PhD or Master’s thesis. There are two types of internships available, industry placement and overseas research placement. Internships will be awarded at the discretion of the Poultry CRC's CEO.

Industry placements

  • Internships are available for work in the Australian poultry industry or for its closely related industries (vaccine companies, feed mills, etc).
  • The internships are for 12 months' duration, with the Poultry CRC and the industry partner sharing the salary.

Overseas research placements

  • Internships are available for applicants who wish to gain research experience with an overseas institute.
  • The Poultry CRC will guarantee six months’ stipend at an ARC postdoctoral fellowship level and provide one return economy airfare. The stipend will not be available to applicants who have already been employed on a Poultry CRC project in Australia.
  • Applicants must make the initial contact with the overseas institute and provide details of the proposed placement to the Poultry CRC. We contact the institute to finalise the arrangements and advise successful applicants of the term of the placement.
  • The overseas institute must have a strong focus on poultry research and the research you intend to carry out must be directly related to poultry.

General terms and application procedures

Internships are available only for Poultry CRC Postgraduates. Stipends for PhD level applicants will be paid in accordance with the ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship rate. Stipends for Master’s level applicants will be paid at 80% of the PhD rate. A Poultry CRC mentor will be appointed to oversee the career development of the successful applicant and offer advice and guidance as required. All successful applicants must regularly liaise with their mentors during the internship period. Interested applicants for Postgraduate Internships should contact the Poultry CRC CEO, Prof. Mingan Choct, to discuss their application and obtain an application form.
