Registered training organisations (RTO)

Registered training organisations (RTOs) are providers and assessors of nationally recognised training. Only RTOs can issue nationally recognised qualifications. The Australian Poultry CRC can assist industry personnel or people who are interested in working in the industry to identify a suitable RTO for their purposes. The Poultry CRC has been working with FarmGate Training in Brisbane as part of a Queensland FarmBis project. In addition, poultry companies have their own arrangements with different RTOs. It can be helpful to deal with an RTO which already has experience in the poultry industry.

Types of RTOs

RTOs include TAFE colleges and institutes, agricultural colleges, adult and community education providers, private providers, community organisations, schools, higher education institutions, commercial and enterprise training providers, industry bodies, and other organisations that meet registration requirements. Most RTOs are prepared to travel within a state and interstate to provide services to clients. All RTO's are entered into the National Training Information Service (NTIS) database listing their details and scope of registration.

Finding the right RTO

If you are interested in training in the poultry industry either because you already work in the industry, or because you are interested in working in the industry, there are several ways of going about it:

  • You could contact your local TAFE or agricultural college and discuss it with someone on the staff.
  • You can go onto the National Training Information Service (NTIS) web site and conduct a search. You could type in poultry and then select RTOs and RTOs by scope. If you select all the states of Australia, you will come up with a list of 18 RTOs. You may wish to select just one state.
  • You could contact the Poultry CRC to obtain more specific information about suitable RTOs for your situation.

The Poultry CRC is aware of a number of RTOs that are currently active in training within the poultry industry. The list is below. We will be continually updating this list as we receive more information.
