Overview: Australian schools now have access to an up-to-date resource offering a real insight into the chicken meat industry and supported with a full range of class room support material. The DVDs (one aimed at primary and one at secondary school) provide extensive material relevant to a range of curriculum topics such as agricultural sciences, food technology and health.

  • ACMF: Farm Visit - (Web-Video) Welcome to a typical Australian Chicken Farm! This video gives you a glimpse of what it is like in a modern commercial chicken shed. No meat chicken is ever raised in cages. The conventional farming method is illustrated in this film clip. Chickens live in large barns where they are free to roam around.
  • ACMF: Biosecurity, What is it? - (Web-Video) Biosecurity is an essential concept in all farming operations and particulary poultry farming. This short film clip explains the why and how of biosecurity on a commercial meat chicken farm, also called broiler farm.
  • ACMF: Chicken Meat and its Nutritional Value - (Web-Video) The short video covers the nutritional value of chicken meat. The clip is an extract from the secondary school DVD "From Hatchery to Home".

  • ACMF: Breeding - (Web-Video) This short video introduces the viewer to the breeding process, an essential step in the multiplication process from a few thousand fertilized eggs carrying the latest genetic strain to the many millions of eggs needed to hatch the chickens which grow up to be meat chickens, also known as broilers. The clip is an extract from the secondary school DVD "From Hatchery to Home".
  • ACMF: Hatchery - (Web-Video) This video segment shows how the fertilized eggs from the breeder farms are hatched at special hatcheries over a 21 day period. From the hatchery, the one-day old chicks are transported to the broiler farms.
  • ACMF: Feedmill - {Web-Video) Feed is an essential input in to the chicken growing process and its cost makes up about 60% of the overall production costs. Feed is formulated carefully to match the nutritional requirements of chickens at their various phases of development. This is done at large feedmills and this video shows what these mills look like and what is involved in feed formulation and processing.
  • ACMF: Rearing Farm - (Web-Video) One day old chicks are transported from the hatchery to the broiler rearing farm where they will be kept until they have reached the size required for processing. This film extract shows what a chicken shed looks like and how chicken farmers (growers) care for the birds. The film also explains the important concept of farm biosecurity which ensures that diseases are kept out of chicken sheds.
  • ACMF: Processing - (Web-Video) This film segment shows the viewer what happens in a chicken processing plant from when the birds arrive at the plant to the packaged product ready for dispatch.
  • ACMF: Food Safety - (Web-Video) This film clip explains the importance of food safety and what each consumer should know about handling chicken meat.
