===Project overview===
Approximately 80 percent of all pathogenic infection in poultry is through the walls of the digestive or respiratory tract. When this project commenced, it was not practical to deliver antigens/vaccines to the surface of the walls to stimulate the immune system.

In collaboration with PerOs, a Canadian company that has developed an oral carrier for intact delivery of vaccines to the gut mucosa in aquaculture, this project assessed the potential for similar use in poultry. This technology would have significant application with vaccines and other bioactives, such as replacements for antibiotics.

====Project objectives====
*This project aimed to develop a system capable of delivering bioactive compounds to the digestive tract intact and in sufficient amounts to induce an immune response.
