Fill in the registration form at poultryhub.org.au/chookchathack. If you are entering with friends, you’ll need to select someone as the team leader. Teams can be made up of 1 to 5 people.
A competition to see who can come up with the best idea about the future of the Poultry Industry (that’s poultry meat and egg producers). Entrants are given some information about the industry and the issues it’s currently facing and a few days to film themselves pitching their idea.
That’s up to you! The hack program runs for 5 days. Over the first 2 days we’ll provide you with bite-sized pieces of information about poultry to help you come up with a great idea. On day 3 you can book a 15-minute session with a poultry expert who can help you workshop your idea. There is no official program on days 4 and 5, these can be used to perfect your pitch, catch up on anything you missed and submit your video. It’s completely up to you how much time you choose to spend on it.
Anyone who is enrolled as a student at an Australian University. You can be studying online, on-campus, full-time or part-time. The competition is open for both Australian domestic students and International students. Please note prize money can only be paid into Australian bank accounts (and the 2nd place chook pen can only be shipped to an Australian address).
Yes, only students enrolled at Australian universities can enter however your team can be made up of students from several Australian universities.
Your video should be uploaded to YouTube. Make sure you make the video either PUBLIC or UNLISTED so that the judges can find it. Log in to the chook chat hack webpage and click on “Submit Video Entry”.
You’ll need your own YouTube account, once you’ve got that check out this handy guide
That’s up to you, just keep it to 3 minutes or less as the judges won’t watch videos that exceed 3 minutes (we don’t want to keep them up all night!).
Don’t worry, noone’s handing out Oscars here. You can film your pitch on your phone or go bigger than Ben Hur, it’s totally up to you. While creativity is one aspect of the judging process, we’re more interested in your idea.
No – the Hack is open to students of all disciplines precisely because we know that sometimes the best ideas come from the most unexpected places. So, whether you’re studying to be an artist, an engineer or a veterinarian, you’ve got what it takes to win.
The judges will award winners based on ingenuity, the potential for the idea to be used in the Poultry industry and creativity. Your idea doesn’t have to be ready to go to market, we’ll be looking at its potential for further development. Likewise, you don’t need to film the next blockbuster, by creativity we are really talking about creative thinking!
That’s up to you. Prize money will be paid into the bank account nominated by the Team Leader and it’s their job to distribute it.
