Litter & cages

A cage with fresh litter
Following are suitable materials for litter in a cage:
- Lawn clippings
- Shredded paper
Important things to remember are:
- You only put as much sawdust or straw in to cover the ground of the cage for small chooks. But for big chooks you put in an extra layer.
- You usually put disinfectant in the cage before the bedding goes in, so the chook doesn’t get sick.
- When the cage has got lots of chook manure in it you clean it out and put fresh sawdust or straw in. Otherwise you clean the cage regularly every 1-2 weeks.
