Poultry Hub Australia was pleased to recently welcome incoming Director Professor Mehdi Toghyani to Armidale as preparations continue for his transition into the role.

Mehdi brings extensive experience across poultry research, teaching, and industry collaboration. His appointment also marks a return to the University of New England, where he completed his PhD in Poultry Nutrition under Professor Bob Swick and continued his research for a further three years before moving to the University of Sydney in 2019, where he has held research and teaching positions. Through many years of research and direct engagement with the poultry industry, Mehdi has developed a strong reputation across several areas of poultry science, including nutrition, physiology and feed technology for both meat chickens and layer hens.

Alongside his academic career, Mehdi has maintained close links with the poultry sector, providing technical and nutritional advice to major poultry integrators in Australia. He has also built a well-established profile through collaborations with major allied industry partners, leading applied research projects, and training and mentoring postgraduate students.

During his recent visit to Armidale, Mehdi had the opportunity to meet members of the PHA team, UNE researchers, and PHA industry members, and to learn more about PHA’s current research, education, and industry activities.

Over the coming months, Mehdi will work closely with current Director, Professor Steve Walkden-Brown, and the PHA team to support a smooth transition before formally commencing in the Director role.
