Poultry Hub Australia is pleased to welcome Dr Dana Campbell, who will be joining the team while Dr Amy Moss takes maternity leave.
Dana brings extensive experience in animal behaviour and welfare research, with a particular focus on understanding how animals interact with and adapt to their environments.
Prior to joining PHA, Dana spent almost a decade with CSIRO in Armidale, most recently as a Senior Research Scientist within the Animal Behaviour and Welfare team. Her research has covered a range of livestock species, including poultry, cattle and sheep, with a strong focus on applying technology to better understand animal behaviour and welfare.
Dana has significant experience in poultry research. Following completion of her PhD at the University of Auckland and research positions at the University of Guelph and Michigan State University, Dana completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the University of New England and CSIRO in Armidale. During this time, she used RFID technology to study the behaviour and welfare of free-range laying hens.
Her research interests include the effects of developmental environments on animal behaviour, stress, cognition and welfare, as well as the use of precision technologies to monitor individual animals.
Dana’s combination of poultry knowledge, animal welfare expertise and experience with innovative research technologies will be a valuable addition to the PHA team.
