Strengthening Poultry Research through Industry Collaborations

The Poultry researchers at University of New England (UNE) were delighted to host Dr. Vivienne Inhuber, Head of Technical Sales and Research at AlzChem Trostberg GmbH, for a productive visit aimed at deepening collaboration in poultry nutrition research. The full day included discussions, facility tours, and idea-sharing that set a strong foundation for future joint initiatives.

A recent Poultry Hub Australia funded project led by Dr. Nishchal Sharma at UNE examined the arginine-sparing potential of guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) in low-protein broiler diets, generating findings highly relevant to the Australian poultry sector. With AlzChem being a global manufacturer of GAA, the visit of Dr. Vivienne Inhuber provided a timely platform to progress ongoing collaborative work funded by AlzChem in exploring how GAA influences energy metabolism and physiology in meat chickens. Facilitated by Dr. Nishchal Sharma, the visit showcased UNE’s world-class poultry and cattle research capabilities. Dr. Inhuber engaged closely with Dr. Nishchal Sharma, Prof. Shubiao Wu, Prof. Stephen Walkden Brown, Prof. Fran Cowley and the poultry research team, visited and reviewed ongoing collaborative projects, and identified emerging opportunities to work together to advance poultry health and nutrition research. The visit also highlighted recent achievements across research and workforce development, reinforcing the commitment of Poultry Hub Australia at UNE to supporting industry-aligned innovation.
